Lymphedema Treatment Program
What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein rich fluid in the superficial tissue that causes swelling of a body part, most often in the arms and legs. Lymphedema can be primary or secondary. Primary lymphedema is due to a congenital abnormality, usually involving malformation or non-formation of lymph vessels. Secondary lymphedema is often caused by infection, surgical procedures where lymph nodes/vessels are removed, radiation for cancer treatment (most common), or trauma to the lymphatic system.
