Personal Training at CCWC
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the personal training sessions at Cherry Creek Wellness Center?
40 minutes
How many times a week should I exercise?
National guidelines suggest an individual should participate in resistance training exercise two to three times a week to build and maintain muscle strength. Cardiovascular exercises should be performed three to four times a week for 30 minutes or more.
What classifies an exercise as cardiovascular?
A cardiovascular workout challenges your heart and lungs. You strengthen these organs by increasing your heart and breathing rates. Most experts recommend maintaining cardiovascular activity for at least 30 minutes to get health benefits.
What will we do in a personal training session?
We'll work on building and maintaining total body strength. You'll do resistance exercises using your own body weight, free weights and a cable-pulley machine. To keep the body challenged and your heart rate elevated, your personal trainer will create small “circuits” to perform with the exercises. The higher heart rate increases the amount of calories you burn during the session and maximizes the number of exercises in our time together. Your fitness trainer will continually change these circuits to keep your muscles from getting used to the exercises. This will improve results.
How many repetitions of an exercise should I be able to complete?
Depending on the exercise and your personal goals, our certified personal trainers aim for between 10 and 20 repetitions of particular exercises. However, there's no magic number of repetitions that will classify you as "strong." Every individual is different. We work on building strength from your base. We will constantly push your muscles as you get stronger so you don't reach a plateau and stop getting results.
If an area of my body hurts, should I avoid exercising that part?
You should not exercise an area if it causes pain. Nevertheless, the trouble spot can often benefit from strengthening the surrounding muscles. If you decide to do strength training with a current injury, your personal trainer will work carefully to increase strength in the surrounding the area. This may provide relief. Your trainer may consult with one of our on-site physical therapists to review any injury precautions.
What is the best way to lose weight?
Weight loss is most effective when you incorporate three components: cardiovascular exercise, strength training and a balanced diet. Several CCWC physical trainers are certified as lifestyle and weight management consultants. They are trained in helping people best incorporate these three aspects into their lives. The components work a bit differently for every individual. We will analyze how to integrate them into your circumstances and lifestyle.
What is a good resource to track what and how much I should eat?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has a website describing the revised food pyramid: www.mypyramid.gov. You can personalize the pyramid, putting together food types and amounts that are right for you and your activity level. You can also monitor your daily calorie intake.
