Personal Training at CCWC
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the personal training sessions at Cherry Creek Wellness Center?
40 minutes
How many times a week should I exercise?
National guidelines suggest an individual should participate in resistance training exercise 2 to 3 times per week to build and maintain muscle strength and perform cardio exercises 3 to 4 times per week for 30 minutes or more.
What classifies an exercise as cardio?
"Cardio" is performing an exercise that challenges your cardiovascular system. The easiest way to think of this is doing something that gets your heart rate going and then trying to keep it up for at least 30 minutes.
What will we do in a personal training session?
During each personal training session we will be working on building and maintaining total body strength by doing resistance exercises using your own body weight, free weights and a cable pulley machine. To continually challenge the body, our personal trainers will create small “circuits” to perform with the exercises. This keeps your heart rate raised to maximize the amount of calories burned during the session and maximizes the number of exercises done in our time together. Your fitness trainer will continually change these “circuits” to keep your muscles from accommodating to the exercises. This will help maximize results and avoid reaching a plateau.
How many repetitions of an exercise should I be able to complete?
There are not a certain number of repetitions to perform or weight that should be reached in order to be classified as “strong.” Depending on the exercise and your personal goals, our certified personal trainers aim between 10 and 20 repetitions. Every individual is different and we work on building strength from your base. We will constantly be pushing your muscles as you gain strength so that you do not reach a plateau and, therefore, stop getting results.
I have an area of my body that hurts, should I stay away from exercising that part?
You should not work out an area if it causes pain. However, an area can often benefit from strengthening the musculature surrounding the trouble spot. If you decide to do strength training with a personal trainer and have a current injury, we will carefully work to increase the strength surrounding the area and, hopefully, provide relief. In addition, we have onsite physical therapists that our fitness trainers are constantly in contact with to review any precautions to take with a specific injury.
What is the best way to lose weight?
Weight loss is the most effective if three components are addressed; engaging in cardio exercise, performing strength training and maintaining a balanced diet. We have physical trainers certified as Lifestyle & Weight Management Consultants who have received extra training on how to best incorporate these three aspects into your life. Each component looks different for every individual. We will analyze how to integrate these for your circumstances and lifestyle.
What is a good resource to use to track what and how much I should eat?
The USDA has put together a website using the revised food pyramid that can be found at www.mypyramid.gov. On this website you are able to personalize a food pyramid so that it puts together amounts that are right for you and your activity level. You can also input and track what you eat daily as an easy way to monitor your calorie intake.
Why should I do personal training at CCWC instead of my gym?
At Cherry Creek Wellness Center we strive to provide the most advanced and effective personal fitness training available. Our personal training studio offers a professional, intimate experience that can not be achieved at a gym. Additionally, our certified personal trainers have obtained a four year degree in exercise science, or a related field. Our personal fitness trainers are also continually in contact with our physical therapists to discuss the best way to exercise with an injury and prevent future injury. Finally, because we believe in the importance of consistent exercise, we strive to make personal training affordable by offering cost-sharing opportunities with our small group training sessions.
